Former Energy Secretary Spencer Abraham has put together a strategic consulting firm that he hopes will make a splash in advising U.S. companies on foreign business prospects and in helping overseas companies that want to invest in this country. The fledgling Abraham Group is already working with four U.S. energy companies that are eyeing oil and gas deals in Egypt, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates, says firm President Joe McMonigle, a former chief of staff to Abraham. Also on board is Majida Mourad, who was a senior adviser to Abraham at Energy. McMonigle said that the firm might also get involved in lobbying projects in issue areas such as immigration, on which Abraham, a Republican former senator from Michigan, has experience. The firm is likely to affiliate soon with a D.C. law firm, McMonigle says, and possibly a New York investment bank, adding that Abraham is in talks about launching a new hedge fund in – you guessed it – energy investments.
